Welcoming Week connects Guelph’s newcomers with native providers, new neighbours
Local groups are coming together to celebrate some of Guelph’s newest residents.
Between Sept. 9 and 18, the Guelph Wellington Local Immigration Partnership and other community organizations will be marking Welcoming Week, “an annual opportunity that brings new and long-time residents together to celebrate diversity and connect newcomers to Guelph with local programs and services” according to a post on the City of Guelph’s website.
Through 26 different free events – a mix of in-person and online – participants will be able to better know what community supports are available, meet government leaders, take part in workshops on finding employment or starting a small business, and celebrating the success of newcomers.
“We’re excited to be able to facilitate Welcoming Week this September,” Leen Al-Habash, project manager of the Guelph Wellington Local Immigration Partnership, states in the post.
“The feeling of community is universal, and so are the gestures that build it. By extending a hand during Welcoming Week, Guelph is acting on equity-building for newcomers in a way that celebrates diversity.”
Funding for Welcoming Week comes via money from Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada.
