Peter McSherry named chair of Guelph Police Companies Board
A new head of the Guelph police board has been named.
Peter McSherry, who previously served as vice-chair, was nominated and approved to post in an uncontested vote Thursday during January’s police board meeting.
McSherry was appointed to the board in May 2020 by the province’s Solicitor General.
McSherry has been a practicing lawyer in Guelph since 1997, and has served on several boards in the community, including the Rotary Club of Guelph, Torchlight Services and the Kiwanis Club of Guelph. He lives in Cambridge.
He takes over for Robert Carter, who left the board in November.
Jane Armstrong, the other provincially-appointed member on the board, will take over for McSherry as vice-chair.
Armstrong joined the board in April 2022.
She is a longtime lawyer in Guelph, practicing law locally from 1982 until her retirement in 2018. However, she still remains active with community organizations.
She also served on the police board from 1996 to 1999.
