New Guelph Transit inexpensive move program launches April 1
If you ride Guelph Transit on an affordable bus pass, you may need to exchange your current fare card for a new one as a new affordable pass program launches next month.
A one-year pilot that will use new criteria and fares to reduce cost barriers to transportation starts April 1.
As with the previous program, eligibility will be based on the low-income cut-off (LICO) — currently $22,926 for a single-person household — but deeper subsidies will be offered based on the level of income as a percentage of the LICO.
The new program has three tiers, with rates at $4, $20, or between $31 and $37.50, respectively.
Current affordable bus pass holders should have received a notice identifying their new rate. If the notice says your rate will be the same, you can continue using your existing fare card. But if your notice tells you your rate has changed, you will need a new OnYourWay fare card before April 1 to pay the reduced rate.
There are three ways to get a new card:
Visit Guelph Transit or ServiceGuelph in person
Get a card and have it registered at ServiceGuelph, located at City Hall, 1 Carden St., or at Guelph Transit’s administration office, 170 Watson Rd. S., on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring government-issued identification to register the new card.
Visit the booth at Guelph Central Station
Staff will be available at Guelph Central Station beside platform 22 between March 28 and April 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., each day.
Request a card in the mail
Fill out an online form or call 519-822-1811 to register a new fare card and have it mailed. You must provide your name, contact information and upload proof of eligibility with government-issued identification.
Those not currently enrolled in the affordable bus pass program can download an application online, fill it out and bring it to ServiceGuelph, Evergreen Seniors Community Centre, West End Community Centre, Guelph Transit, or Victoria Road Recreation Centre.
