Maria Comacchio Obituary (2021) – Guelph, ON
Maria Comacchio (nee Filippetto) passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on Easter Monday, April 5, 2021 at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving children. She was the adored wife of the late Bruno Comacchio, beloved mother of Cynthia, John (Lorna nee Kurtz), and Linda (Murray Calanchie), dear Nonna of Stefanie Ly, Evan Abeele (Denise Nouvion), Blaire Comacchio (Stephen Schoettler), and Brenna Comacchio (Todd Winstanley), and cherished bis-nonna of Alexander and Maria Ly, Lila and Theodore Schoettler. Maria was born on Monday, October 6, 1930 in Pezzan d’Istrana, Treviso, Italy. A brave and adventurous woman, she travelled solo across the Atlantic Ocean, following her beloved fiancé Bruno to Canada, where they were married in 1955. Together they grew a vibrant family life and faith community in their treasured new home of Guelph, Ontario. A talented seamstress and incredible cook, Maria was a true creator who kept multiple generations well-clothed and well-fed. With an eternally fun-loving spirit, infectious laugh, and a knack for throwing together an irresistible meal on a moment’s notice, you always left Maria’s home with a full heart (and belly)! Her nourishing home-cooked meals took root in her impressive backyard gardenMaria’s talent with food truly went from seed to plate, and there was always room at her table. We will remember Maria for her bubbly and young-at-heart personality, her faith in God and the strength it gave her to endure life’s challenges, and her endless quest to feed every soul in sight. Her remarkable life will live on in the cultural traditions she so lovingly passed down through the generations of her family.
